Summary. A custom coaching app in India costs ₹6.5 lakh to ₹20 lakh for a first release and ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh for a full app with its own backend, on eCorpIT's published planning ranges. Renting a white-label platform starts at ₹24,999 a year plus a share of every sale, or ₹7,499 to ₹29,999 a month on flat pricing, on the vendors' own price pages as of 13 October 2026. On fees alone, renting is cheaper for most institutes. A custom build earns its price when you need features, data ownership or fee terms that a platform will not give you. The costs that surprise owners sit outside the build quote: store commission of 15% to 30% on courses sold inside the app, video delivery, live class minutes and payment fees.

What a coaching app is, and who this guide is for

In India, a coaching app is the app of a coaching institute, tuition class or test prep teacher. Students use it to watch classes, take tests, ask doubts and pay fees. The Ministry of Education's 2024 guidelines and the consumer regulator's 2024 advertising guidelines both define a coaching centre as one that coaches more than 50 students.

If you want a fitness, sports or life coaching app, the cost drivers are different. Start with our guide to fitness and wellness app development.

A coaching app has four kinds of user, and each one adds screens and rules:

  • Student: recorded lectures, live classes, notes, tests, doubts and results.
  • Parent: attendance, test scores and fee dues.
  • Teacher: class schedule, content upload, doubt replies and marking.
  • Admin: batches, fees, refunds, staff roles and reports.

The large national apps set what students expect. Physics Wallah's Google Play listing describes live classes, doubt clarification, revision notes, test series and offline downloads. Teachmint's listing describes the institute's side: attendance tracking, automated grading and shared study material.

This guide is for an institute owner or teacher choosing between three routes: rent a white-label app, commission a custom app, or build a platform to license to other institutes.

How we sourced the numbers

Every platform and service price below was read on the vendor's own page on 13 October 2026. The build ranges are the ones eCorpIT publishes for India. Where a vendor publishes no price, we say so and do not guess. US dollar list prices are converted at ₹95.77 to the dollar, the cross rate implied by the European Central Bank's reference rates for 12 October 2026. Your card or bank rate will differ.

We also read eleven published cost guides for education, coaching and general app builds. Their ranges ran from ₹2 lakh to more than ₹1.5 crore, and we could not trace any of them to a stated method or sample. None of those figures is repeated here.

Coaching app development cost in India at a glance

Route What you pay Time to launch Fits
White-label platform, share of sales ₹24,999 to ₹99,999 a year plus 5% to 10% of each sale Set by the vendor A teacher or small institute testing online sales
White-label platform, flat fee ₹7,499 to ₹29,999 a month plus taxes Set by the vendor An institute with steady online revenue
Custom app, first release ₹6.5 lakh to ₹20 lakh 4 to 10 weeks One institute, one exam category, Android first or one shared codebase
Custom app, full build with backend ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh 8 to 16 weeks Live classes, full test engine, parent view and integrations
Multi-institute platform, first release ₹10 lakh to ₹42 lakh 6 to 14 weeks A product you plan to license to other institutes

The first two rows are list prices from Graphy and Edmingle. The last three rows are the planning ranges eCorpIT publishes for India on its Gurgaon mobile app development page for an AI mobile app MVP, meaning a first release, a full mobile app with backend and a SaaS platform MVP, applied here to coaching scope. The delivery windows come from our mobile app development services page. They are ranges for planning, not a quotation. Ask every vendor whether the figure includes 18% GST, and add the running costs set out below.

For an outside reference, Clutch's pricing guide for mobile app developers lists India's average rate as under $25 an hour and says most projects in its directory fall between $10,000 and $49,999, which is about ₹9.6 lakh to ₹47.9 lakh at the rate above. That is global directory data, not coaching data, so treat it as a sanity check only.

For a figure against your own feature list, use our mobile app development cost calculator. The reasoning behind budget bands, and why India has no reliable hourly rate card, is in our general guide to app development cost in India.

What each custom budget buys

The scope lists below are our reading of where coaching builds usually land inside those ranges. The written estimate for your own feature list is what counts.

First release: ₹6.5 lakh to ₹20 lakh, 4 to 10 weeks

  • One institute and one exam category.
  • Android first, or one cross-platform codebase for Android and iPhone.
  • Phone number login with a one-time password.
  • Batches, courses, recorded lectures and PDF notes.
  • Recorded video delivered through a bought video service with copy protection.
  • A timed objective test with a score.
  • Fee payment through one payment gateway.
  • Push notifications.
  • A web admin panel for content, students and payments.

Left for later: in-app live classes, a parent login, offline downloads, rank analysis and a second language. Live classes can run on the meeting tool you already use, linked from the app.

Full build: ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh, 8 to 16 weeks

  • Android and iPhone apps.
  • In-app live classes with chat, hand raise and recordings.
  • A full test engine: sections, timers, negative marking, ranks and question-wise analysis.
  • Doubt solving with photos, routed to teachers.
  • A parent view with attendance, scores and dues.
  • Fee instalments, reminders, receipts with GST and refunds.
  • Offline downloads with copy protection.
  • Hindi or another regional language.
  • Links to the systems you already run, such as an offline centre's ERP or accounting software.

Multi-institute platform: ₹10 lakh to ₹42 lakh for a first release, 6 to 14 weeks

This is a software product, not one institute's app. Each institute needs its own branding, data separation and billing, with an owner's console above them all. Budget for it only if you intend to sell the product to other institutes.

What moves the quote: cost by feature

Screen count is a poor guide to cost. The features that move a quote most are the ones where the developer takes responsibility for an outside service working on exam day: live video, protected video and payments.

Feature What drives the cost Build or buy
Recorded lectures Copy protection, quality switching, offline downloads, resume position Buy the video service, build the screens
Live classes Students per class, one-way or two-way audio, chat, recordings Buy the live video service
Test engine Question import, sections, timers, negative marking, ranks, results-day load Build
Doubt solving Photo questions, routing to teachers, reply-time tracking Build
Fee collection Instalments, monthly mandates, GST receipts, refunds, reconciliation Buy the gateway, build the fee rules
Parent view A second login role with attendance, scores and dues Build
Admin panel Batches, content upload, staff roles, reports, exports Build
Notifications Push, SMS templates, WhatsApp templates Buy
Hindi and regional languages Translated screens, fonts, search, bilingual questions Build

We do not print a rupee figure per feature. The per-feature tables in other guides cite no source, and the same feature costs very different amounts depending on what it must connect to. Three of these rows have their own guides on this site: video delivery and DRM costs, RBI e-mandate rules for recurring payments for monthly fee collection, and Hindi and regional language support.

Custom build vs white-label platforms such as Classplus

A white-label platform rents you a ready coaching app with your name and logo on it. The published prices fall into three groups: a yearly fee plus a share of each sale, a flat monthly fee, and no public price at all.

Platform Published price Fee on each sale Your own branded app
Graphy ₹24,999, ₹49,999 or ₹99,999 a year 10%, 7.5% or 5%, minimum ₹10 Android on every plan, Android and iPhone on the ₹99,999 plan
Edmingle ₹7,499, ₹14,999 or ₹29,999 a month billed annually, plus taxes None listed on the price page Android from the ₹14,999 plan, iPhone on the ₹29,999 plan, on annual commitment
Learnyst $149, $249 or $799 a month plus taxes 0% Android from the $249 plan, iPhone on the $799 plan, on annual plans
Classplus, Teachmint, Proctur, Appx, Testpress Not published Not published Ask on the demo call

Three notes on that table:

  • Graphy's page also carries a second, monthly price set in its markup, ₹1,999 and ₹9,999 a month with the iPhone app as a paid add-on. Confirm the plan and the iPhone terms before you pay.
  • Learnyst's page showed US dollar prices to our request, and an Indian visitor may see rupees. Its branded apps are published under Learnyst's developer account, not yours.
  • Classplus, Teachmint, Proctur, Appx and Testpress show a demo or trial button and no price. Prices quoted for them on other blogs are second-hand, so ask each vendor for a written quote.

Three years of platform fees against a custom build

Graphy's three plans cross over at fixed points. The ₹24,999 plan is cheapest below ₹10 lakh of online sales a year, the ₹49,999 plan between ₹10 lakh and ₹20 lakh, and the ₹99,999 plan above that. With that in hand, here is the three-year cost at two sizes.

Route Online sales of ₹20 lakh a year Online sales of ₹2 crore a year
Graphy, cheapest listed plan for that size ₹6.0 lakh ₹33.0 lakh
Edmingle at ₹14,999 a month ₹5.4 lakh plus taxes ₹5.4 lakh plus taxes
Edmingle at ₹29,999 a month ₹10.8 lakh plus taxes ₹10.8 lakh plus taxes
Custom full build, build only ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh

The platform figures are fees only and leave out payment gateway charges. The custom figure leaves out running costs, which the platforms bundle. Both price pages list unlimited courses and live sessions, and neither states a bandwidth cap, so ask for the fair-use terms in writing.

When renting wins. On fees alone, a flat-fee platform is cheaper than a custom build at both sizes, and a share-of-sales platform is cheaper until online sales are large. If the platform does what your institute needs, rent.

When custom wins. A custom build is worth its price in five cases:

  • The share-of-sales fee has outgrown a build. At ₹2 crore a year, 5% is ₹10 lakh every year.
  • You need something the platform does not do: your own test pattern, your offline centre's ERP, a parent app or your own doubt workflow.
  • You want the app under your own store accounts and the student data in your own database.
  • You collect fees in ways the platform's checkout does not allow, such as instalments, scholarships or franchise splits.
  • You plan to license the product to other institutes.

A sensible middle path is to start on a platform and move when the numbers say so. Before you sign, ask how you export students, payments and content, and what happens to your app listing if you leave.

What it costs to run a coaching app each month

A custom app pays its own bills. These are published list prices.

Cost line Published list price Vendor read
Recorded video with DRM $149 a year for 1,000 GB, up to $4,999 a year for 50 TB VdoCipher
Live classes $0.0012 a viewer minute one-way, $0.004 a participant minute two-way, after 10,000 included minutes a month 100ms
Servers $5 to $44 a month for 0.5 GB to 8 GB of memory AWS Lightsail
Payment gateway 2% plus GST on each successful payment Razorpay
SMS ₹0.25 a message, falling to ₹0.16 by volume, plus GST MSG91
WhatsApp ₹0.115 a utility message, ₹0.8631 a marketing message Meta
Push notifications No cost Firebase Cloud Messaging
Store accounts 99 USD a year for Apple, US$25 once for Google Play Apple, Google

DRM is the encryption that stops a paid lecture being copied. The rows above come from each vendor's price page. Two details are easy to miss. Lightsail's Mumbai region includes half the data transfer of the listed bundles. Commercial SMS in India needs company and sender ID registration on a telecom operator's DLT portal before the first message goes out.

A worked example for 300 students

The assumptions, which you should replace with your own: 300 students, 10 hours of recorded video each a month, 40 live classes a month of 60 minutes with 100 students attending, and ₹5,000 a month in fees paid through the app.

  • Recorded video: 36,000 viewing hours a year. VdoCipher estimates 44,700 hours at 800 kbps for its 15 TB plan at $1,599 a year, which is about ₹1.53 lakh, or about ₹43 a student a month.
  • Live classes: 2,40,000 viewer minutes a month. After the 10,000 included minutes, one-way streaming at the 100ms list price is $276 a month, about ₹26,400. Two-way classes at the participant rate would be $920, about ₹88,100.
  • Payments: ₹15 lakh a month through a gateway at 2% plus GST is ₹35,400.
  • WhatsApp: 6,000 utility messages a month, 20 for each family, is ₹690 at Meta's rate before your provider's margin.

Video and live classes alone come to about ₹4.7 lakh a year in this example, before servers, messaging and maintenance. That is the figure to set against a platform's bundled fee.

Maintenance is the last line, and both stores force it every year. Since 28 April 2026 Apple accepts only apps built with Xcode 26 against the iOS 26 SDK, and from 31 August 2026 new apps and updates on Google Play must target Android 16, API level 36. Budget maintenance as named tasks on a retainer or by the hour, not as a percentage of build cost. Our article on mobile app maintenance cost explains why the 15% to 20% convention has no measurement behind it.

Test deadlines and results days bring traffic that a normal month does not. Our article on EdTech app architecture for exam week covers what that does to the hosting bill.

Store commission: where the student pays changes the cost

This is the cost most quotes leave out, and it has to be decided before design starts.

Apple. Guideline 3.1.1 requires in-app purchase for anything that unlocks content inside an iPhone app, which covers recorded lectures, test series and subscriptions. Guideline 3.1.3(d) lets one-to-one tutoring take payment another way, then adds: "One-to-few and one-to-many real-time services must use in-app purchase." A live batch class sold inside the iPhone app therefore goes through Apple. Fees for classroom coaching, a service used outside the app, go the other way: guideline 3.1.3(e) says they must not use in-app purchase.

Apple's commission on digital goods and services is 30%, or 15% for developers in the App Store Small Business Program. That programme is open to developers with up to 1 million USD in proceeds in the prior calendar year and to developers new to the App Store. Subscriptions drop to 15% after a subscriber's first year of paid service.

Google Play. Google's Payments policy requires Play billing for digital purchases inside the app and names education subscriptions as an example. In India the service fee is 15% on the first US$1 million a developer earns each year, for developers enrolled in that tier, 30% above it, and 15% on auto-renewing subscriptions. An app in India may offer an alternative billing system beside Play billing, and Google then reduces its fee on those payments by 4 percentage points. That route requires enrolment, PCI DSS certification and reporting each transaction to Google within 24 hours. Google's lower fee schedule reaches India with the rest-of-world rollout on 30 September 2027. The detail is in our article on Google Play fees in 2026. We found no Google rule matching Apple's exception for one-to-one tutoring.

On a ₹10,000 course, ignoring tax:

Where the student pays Fee rate Amount kept
iPhone app, standard rate 30% ₹3,000
iPhone app, Small Business Program 15% ₹1,500
Android app, Play billing, first US$1 million tier 15% ₹1,500
Android app, alternative billing in India 11% plus your gateway's fee ₹1,100 plus gateway
Your website, through a gateway 2% plus GST ₹236

That gap is the reason to consider selling on your website and using the app to deliver. Google allows it: its policy guidance says any app may be consumption-only, with students signing in to content bought elsewhere and nothing sold in the app.

On iPhone the route is narrower. An app outside the United States storefront may not encourage users, inside the app, to pay another way, although you may tell students about other payment methods by email or message. Apple lets multiplatform services open content bought on the web only if the same items are also sold by in-app purchase in the app, and its reader-app category covers previously purchased video among other media. Which clause your app falls under is decided at review, so settle it during scoping.

Each choice changes the build. Selling in both apps and on the web means three payment integrations and one record of who has paid that agrees with all of them.

Payment fees, GST and compliance

Payment gateway fees. Razorpay lists 2% plus GST with no setup or annual fee. PayU lists 2% for domestic cards, net banking and wallets and 3% for EMI, American Express and international cards, plus 18% GST.

UPI. On 15 September 2026 the Finance Ministry said merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000 will carry a merchant discount rate of 0.4%, capped at ₹300 for payments of ₹75,000 and above, while payments up to ₹2,000 stay free. A ₹10,000 fee instalment would carry ₹40. The release gives no start date, so ask your gateway how and when it will pass this on.

GST. Software development has no special GST rate and falls under the standard 18%, so a ₹20 lakh build is invoiced at ₹23.6 lakh. Private coaching is taxed at the same standard rate. The GST Council's guidance says private coaching centres are not treated as educational institutions and cannot use the education exemption, so the app's receipts must show GST on fees. Ask your accountant how much of the GST on the build you can claim as input tax credit.

Data protection for students under 18. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act treats anyone under 18 as a child. Section 9 requires verifiable consent from a parent before a child's data is processed and bars tracking, behavioural monitoring and advertising targeted at children. The 2025 Rules that set out the consent procedure come into force eighteen months after their gazette date of 13 November 2025, which falls in May 2027. Rule 10 expects the app to check that the person consenting is an identifiable adult. The Rules give educational institutions a narrow exemption for tracking tied to educational activities or children's safety, and they do not say whether a private coaching centre counts as one. Treat that as an open legal question and take advice. The Press Information Bureau states the penalty for breaching the obligations on children at up to ₹200 crore.

In build terms this means an age question at sign-up, a parent consent flow, a consent record, and care over which analytics and advertising kits go into the app. Our guide to DPDP compliance cost prices that work.

Coaching centre rules. The Ministry of Education's 2024 guidelines were circulated to states and union territories to act on through their own laws, and are not a central law. They say a centre should not enrol a student below 16 or before the secondary school examination, should publish tutor qualifications, courses, fees and its refund policy on a website, and should refund fees pro rata within 10 days when a student leaves mid-course. By August 2026 the ministry listed eleven state and union territory laws, rules or guidelines issued after them. Put the fee and refund policy in the app, build the refund flow, and check your own state's rule.

Advertising. The Central Consumer Protection Authority's guidelines, in force since 13 November 2024, require written consent, taken after selection, before a centre uses a successful candidate's name or photo. By May 2026 the authority had issued over 60 notices and imposed penalties above ₹1.39 crore on coaching institutes. Results banners and push campaigns in the app need that consent on file.

How long it takes to build a coaching app

eCorpIT's published windows are 4 to 10 weeks for a first release, 8 to 16 weeks for a full app with backend and 6 to 14 weeks for a platform's first release. Three things outside the code decide whether you hit them.

  • Store review. Apple says it typically reviews at least 50% of submissions within 24 hours and 90% within 48 hours.
  • Google's tester rule. A personal Play Console account created after 13 November 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in for 14 continuous days before it can apply to publish. The rule is written for personal accounts, so open the account in the institute's name as an organisation, in the first week.
  • Things only you can supply. Recorded lectures, question banks, a verified payment gateway account, SMS registration and store accounts in the institute's name.

How to cut coaching app development cost

  • Test demand on a rented platform before you commission anything.
  • Ship recorded lectures before in-app live classes. Live video costs about twice as much to run as recorded video in the worked example above.
  • Buy video, live classes, payments and notifications. Build only what is yours: the test engine, the doubt flow and the admin panel.
  • Sell on your website at first and keep the app for delivery. It removes two store billing integrations and the commission.
  • Limit the first release to one exam category and one language.
  • Fix the scope in writing and change it only by written change request.

How to choose a coaching app developer in India

Ask every developer you shortlist for the same seven things:

  • A written scope with acceptance criteria, and a fixed price or a capped estimate.
  • Source code, the cloud account and both store accounts in the institute's name from the first day.
  • An estimate of the monthly running bills at your student numbers, and who pays them.
  • An education app of theirs that you can install and use.
  • Parental consent and data handling for students under 18 designed in, not added after launch.
  • A handover clause covering code, data and credentials if you part ways.
  • A named maintenance plan that covers both yearly store deadlines.

How eCorpIT can help

eCorpIT is a Gurugram-based technology organisation, founded in 2021, assessed at CMMI Level 5 and MSME certified, with senior-led engineering teams working across AWS, Microsoft and Google platforms. For coaching institutes we start with the build-or-rent decision, then give a written estimate for a first release with the monthly running costs at your student numbers, and set up the store, cloud and payment accounts in your institute's name. If a rented platform is the better answer for your size, we will say so. Talk to us at /contact-us/.

Frequently asked

Quick answers.

01 How much does it cost to build a coaching app in India?
On eCorpIT's published planning ranges, a custom coaching app costs ₹6.5 lakh to ₹20 lakh for a first release and ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh for a full build with live classes, a test engine and a parent view. Renting a white-label platform starts at ₹24,999 a year plus a share of each sale.
02 Is it cheaper to use Classplus or another white-label platform than to build a custom app?
Usually, yes. Flat-fee platforms list ₹7,499 to ₹29,999 a month, which over three years is well below a custom build. Classplus publishes no price, so ask for a written quote. Custom becomes worth it when a share-of-sales fee grows large or you need features and data control a platform will not give.
03 How much does it cost to build an app like Physics Wallah?
The features, such as live classes, test series, doubt solving and offline downloads, fit inside a full custom build of ₹12.5 lakh to ₹50 lakh. The scale does not. An app serving millions of students is a standing engineering team and a large monthly infrastructure bill, not a one-time project price.
04 How long does it take to build a coaching app?
eCorpIT's published windows are 4 to 10 weeks for a first release and 8 to 16 weeks for a full app with backend. Add store review, and for a new personal Google Play account a closed test with 12 testers for 14 days. Have your content and store accounts ready early.
05 What does it cost to run a coaching app every month?
It depends on video hours and live class minutes. In our worked example for 300 students, protected video and one-way live classes come to about ₹4.7 lakh a year on vendor list prices, before servers, messaging and maintenance. Payment gateway fees of about 2% plus GST apply to every fee collected.
06 Do Google Play and Apple take a commission on course fees paid in the app?
Yes, on digital content. Apple keeps 30%, or 15% under its Small Business Program. Google Play keeps 15% on a developer's first US$1 million a year in India and 30% above it. Fees for classroom coaching fall outside these rules, and Apple exempts one-to-one tutoring.
07 Does a coaching app need to follow the DPDP Act for students under 18?
Yes. The Act treats anyone under 18 as a child, requires verifiable parental consent and bars tracking and targeted advertising aimed at children. The Rules carrying the consent procedure come into force in May 2027. Whether a coaching centre qualifies for the narrow educational exemption is an open question, so take legal advice.
08 Should a coaching app launch on Android or iOS first?
Ask one batch which phones they use and follow the answer. Android is cheaper to start: Google Play charges US$25 once, against 99 USD a year for Apple, and India allows alternative billing on Play. A single cross-platform codebase covers both stores if your students are split.
