Summary. For iPhone users in India, iOS 27 arrives in September 2026 as a free update, on the same worldwide build, most likely on the night of September 14 around 10:30 p.m. IST. Apple Intelligence already works in India in the English (India) language, live since iOS 18.4 on March 31, 2025, and it carries into iOS 27 on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. The honest gap is language: as of WWDC 2026, Apple has not announced Apple Intelligence support for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, or Bengali. The new Gemini-powered Siri AI does support English (India), unlike the European Union, where it is blocked, but it ships to users later in the year rather than on day one. Hardware matters too: the AI features need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, and the iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900 in India. This guide separates what an Indian user gets on day one from what still waits.
What iOS 27 delivers in India on day one
Day one in India means the base operating system plus the Apple Intelligence features already available in English (India). Every iPhone 11 and later gets iOS 27 itself, with the refreshed Liquid Glass design, the Photos and Messages improvements, redesigned parental controls, and the new Find My location-sharing controls, according to MacRumors. None of those depend on Apple Intelligence, so they work on any compatible iPhone from the moment the update lands.
On an iPhone 15 Pro or newer set to English (India), the existing Apple Intelligence toolkit is there on day one as well: Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, the improved Siri, and ChatGPT integration, plus voicemail summaries in English (India), per Apple's India newsroom. You can also talk to the improved Siri using English mixed with Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, or Telugu, which is the closest thing to regional-language support today.
Apple Intelligence in India: available now in English (India)
Apple Intelligence came to India with iOS 18.4 on March 31, 2025, when Apple added an English (India) localization alongside several other languages, according to Apple. You turn it on by setting the device or Siri language to English (India) in Settings, on a supported device. The current language list for Apple Intelligence, as of iOS 26.1, covers English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese, per Apple Support in India.
That list is the crux of the India story. English (India) is supported, so Indian users are not shut out the way European users are. But the list has no Indian language on it beyond English, which shapes everything that follows in this guide.
The new Siri AI and India
The headline of WWDC 2026 was Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant that runs on Google's Gemini models, confirmed by Apple and reported by Business Standard. For India, the good news is that Siri AI supports English (India) at launch alongside English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and the US, and will expand to more languages later.
Two caveats keep this out of the day-one column. First, the new Siri AI reaches users later in the year as a beta rather than at the September release, so no region gets it on day one. Second, it works in English (India), not Hindi. This is the sharp contrast with Europe: in the European Union, Apple confirmed Siri AI is delayed entirely because of the Digital Markets Act, while India faces a language gap, not a regulatory block.
What waits: Hindi and regional languages
This is the part India keeps waiting on. As of WWDC 2026, Apple has not announced Apple Intelligence support for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, or other major Indian languages, according to PCQuest. For a country where a large share of users prefer to type and speak in an Indian language, English-only AI is a real limitation, even if the mixed-language Siri input softens it.
The practical read for product managers: if your users interact primarily in Hindi or a regional language, Apple Intelligence is not yet the assistant layer to build a workflow on inside India. English-first audiences are well served today; regional-language audiences still wait.
What waits: US-only services features
Some of the most talked-about iOS 27 additions are not available in India at launch because they depend on US-only services. Apple Cash bill splitting, where you scan a receipt to split a bill, is tied to Apple Cash, which operates only in the United States. Apple Maps Local Lists also starts in the US, according to Apple's services newsroom post. We covered the full set in our guide to the 7 new Apple services features for fall 2026.
Indian users still get the globally available upgrades: Wallet support for digitised loyalty cards, the Find My sharing controls, and the Apple Music and Podcasts updates. Bill splitting in India still runs through UPI apps, whether the tab is Rs 1,200 or Rs 12,000.
Which iPhones you need in India
The device split decides who gets what. iOS 27 runs on the iPhone 11 and later, so no models were dropped from iOS 26, per 9to5Mac. Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI, however, need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, which means the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models, per Tom's Guide.
In India, that puts a price on Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900 for 256GB, rising to Rs 1,54,900 for 512GB and Rs 1,74,900 for 1TB, according to Smartprix. If you own an iPhone 14 or an older base model, you can still run iOS 27, but the AI layer needs newer hardware.
| iPhone in India | iOS 27 | Apple Intelligence | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro | Yes | Yes | From Rs 1,34,900 |
| iPhone 16 and 17 (all) | Yes | Yes | Varies by model |
| iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max | Yes | Yes | Legacy pricing |
| iPhone 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 | Yes | No | Legacy pricing |
| iPhone XS, XR and older | No | No | Not supported |
India timing and price
There is no separate India release date to wait for. iOS 27 is the same build worldwide and it is free, with no charge, subscription, or in-app payment, according to eCorpIT's iOS 27 India launch guide. If Apple releases it on September 14, 2026 in the US, Indian users should see it the same night, around 10:30 p.m. IST, give or take server load. You can track the countdown on our iOS 27 countdown page or check whether it is out yet.
The table below sums up the day-one versus waits split for India.
| Capability | India on day one? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Base iOS 27 (design, Photos, Find My) | Yes | iPhone 11 and later |
| Apple Intelligence in English (India) | Yes | iPhone 15 Pro and later |
| New Siri AI (Gemini) | Waits | English (India), arrives later in the year |
| Hindi and regional-language AI | Waits | Not announced as of WWDC 2026 |
| Apple Cash bill split, Maps Local Lists | Waits | US-only services at launch |
| Wallet loyalty cards, Music, Podcasts | Yes | Globally available |
Privacy: DPDP and Apple Intelligence
For India-market product teams, privacy is part of the readiness picture. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDP) treats personal data, including precise location and personal context, as requiring consent and care. iOS 27 leans further into personal context and location sharing, so any app that builds on those signals should design for consent first. We design applications aligned with DPDP requirements rather than claiming blanket compliance, and the tighter Find My controls in iOS 27 make consent-based location sharing easier to model.
