Summary. No — the final version of iOS 27 is not out yet. As of June 17, 2026, iOS 27 exists only as a developer beta. Apple announced iOS 27 during WWDC 2026's keynote on June 8, 2026. The free public beta is due in July 2026, and the stable public release for everyone is widely expected on Monday, September 14, 2026, alongside the new iPhone lineup. Apple revealed that all devices from the iPhone 11 onward will be eligible for the update — though the new Siri AI requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. If your iPhone is your only device, the practical answer is: wait for September.
The direct answer: not yet, but soon
If you opened Settings, tapped Software Update, and saw nothing about iOS 27, that is expected. The build the public will install in the autumn does not exist yet. Only pre-release test versions do.
Here is the precise status as of June 17, 2026:
- iOS 27 was previewed, not released, on June 8, 2026 at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference.
- The developer beta is live right now, available to anyone who enables beta updates with an Apple ID.
- The public beta — a more stable build for everyday testers — arrives in July 2026.
- The full, stable release for all supported iPhones is expected on or around Monday, September 14, 2026.
The official version of iOS 27 will not be available to install on compatible iPhones until later in 2026. Apple usually releases the iOS update during the second week of September, so Monday, September 14, is the widely cited guess as to when iOS 27 becomes available to everyone.
Be clear about why "September 14" appears everywhere: it is a forecast, not an Apple-confirmed date. Apple typically launches new versions of iOS in September, often around the second week, which makes Monday, September 14 a likely release date based on past patterns. Apple has confirmed the broad windows (developer beta now, public beta in July, full release in the autumn) but not the exact day.
The full iOS 27 timeline (2026)
Below is the stage-by-stage rollout, with what each stage actually means for you.
| Stage | Date (2026) | Who can install it | Stability | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Developer Beta 1 | June 8 (live now) | Anyone with an Apple ID + Beta Updates | Rough — crashes, battery drain | Free |
| Public Beta | Mid-July (expected) | Anyone with an Apple ID | Better, but still buggy | Free |
| Release Candidate | Early September (expected) | Beta testers | Near-final | Free |
| Public Release | ~September 14 (expected) | All supported iPhones | Final, stable | Free |
iOS 27 Developer Beta 1 released Monday, June 8, 2026, immediately after the WWDC keynote. Public Beta arrives in mid-July 2026. The final iOS 27 release ships in mid-September 2026.
A useful detail many people miss: the final iOS 27 release in September 2026 is identical for both beta tracks. The September 2026 final release is the same on both tracks, so you are not missing anything important by waiting.
One practical note for international readers: iOS releases globally on the same day. There is no separate India, UK, or Australia launch date. When the final build ships, it rolls out by time zone, typically starting at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, which works out to roughly 10:30 PM India Standard Time the same evening.
Will your iPhone get iOS 27?
This is the second-most-common question after the release date, and the answer is generous. Apple did not drop any iPhones from the iOS 27 compatibility list. Every device that currently runs iOS 26 will get iOS 27, including models dating back to 2019.
Apple claimed the upcoming update will be "available to more users than any iOS release ever."
Supported iPhones
iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and all newer models, confirmed at WWDC 2026. The complete list: iPhone 17 series, iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd gen). That is 31 supported iPhones. The minimum chip requirement is the A13 Bionic.
The catch: Apple Intelligence and Siri AI need newer hardware
Running iOS 27 and getting every headline feature are two different things. The marquee feature this year is a rebuilt Siri, and it has a hardware floor. Apple confirmed that iOS 27 supports the same devices as iOS 26, which includes the entire iPhone 11 lineup. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features, though, require at least an iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with an A17 Pro chip and at least 8 GB of RAM. That covers iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 17e, 17, Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, which is 12 models. The iPhone 15 (non-Pro), iPhone 15 Plus, and all iPhone 14 and earlier do not support Apple Intelligence because they lack enough RAM.
The three compatibility tiers, in plain terms:
| Tier | iPhones | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Full iOS 27 + Apple Intelligence | iPhone 15 Pro and newer (12 models) | Everything, including Siri AI |
| Full iOS 27, no Apple Intelligence | iPhone 11–15 (non-Pro), SE 2nd/3rd gen | All design, performance, parental controls — no AI Siri |
| Not supported | iPhone XS, XR and older | Stays on iOS 26 |
Should you install the beta, or wait?
If you are reading this because you want iOS 27 today, you technically can. The developer beta is live. But for most people the honest recommendation is to wait. Pre-release software can be unstable. Bugs, performance issues, and app incompatibility are common as Apple uses the beta period to find and fix problems before the final version launches.
The real-world problems are not theoretical. Common beta issues include 30–50% faster battery drain (especially the first 48 hours), app crashes (banking and 2FA apps most common), Bluetooth disconnects, broken CarPlay, overheating during indexing, and visual glitches in the new Liquid Glass UI. The apps most likely to break temporarily are banking apps, authenticator apps, some VPN clients, and corporate-managed apps.
If you do want a taste early, the public beta is the smarter route than the developer build. Unless you absolutely cannot wait, choose the Public Beta. It arrives about 5 weeks after Developer Beta 1 and has had the worst bugs ironed out.
A simple rule of thumb:
- Only one iPhone, used for work, banking, or 2FA? Wait for the September release.
- Have a spare iPhone you can risk? The July public beta is fine to try.
- A developer testing your own apps? The developer beta is for you. Back up first.
How to install iOS 27 when it is your turn
The process is simple now. Apple folded beta enrollment into Settings years ago, so there are no configuration profiles or computers to deal with.
To install the public beta (from July 2026):
Back up your iPhone, visit beta.apple.com in Safari and sign in with your Apple ID, tap Enroll Your iOS Device, go to Settings → General → Software Update → Beta Updates and select iOS 27 Public Beta, then tap Download and Install.
To install the final release (from ~September 14, 2026):
Back up your device first, then go to Settings → General → Software Update. When iOS 27 appears in September, tap Download and Install. The process takes 10–20 minutes on Wi-Fi. Like every major iOS update, iOS 27 is a free over-the-air update for all supported devices.
Before you install anything, beta or final, back up. One detail catches people out every year: backups made on iOS 27 cannot be restored to iOS 26, so you must use a pre-beta backup to recover your data.
What you are actually waiting for
So what arrives when iOS 27 ships? The headline is Siri. iOS 27 includes Siri AI, an overhauled version of Siri that is much smarter and more capable than before, plus new Apple Intelligence features in apps, updated parental controls, and performance improvements. Siri AI uses generative AI models and behaves more like ChatGPT or Claude than the old Siri. The headline feature is Siri AI: a fully rebuilt, Google Gemini-powered assistant with its own standalone app.
Beyond Siri, Apple is leaning on speed. Apple claimed new photos will appear 70% faster, AirDrop transfers will be 80% faster, and CPU schedulers will be improved to help multitasking. Apple measured these itself. Testing ran in April and May 2026 on an iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 26.4.2 and prerelease iOS 27, with app launch performance measured after many cycles of device usage.
There are also real design and family-focused changes. iOS 27 adds a system-wide slider to customise the Liquid Glass effect, letting you pick between ultra-clear and fully tinted looks. On the parental side, Screen Time has been redesigned so parents can see the apps and websites children visit and make adjustments in real time, and Time Allowances let parents set how long children can use app categories like Entertainment, Games, and Social Media.

Regional availability: one feature won't ship everywhere
For most of the world, iOS 27 lands on the same day with the same features. Two exceptions matter. Siri AI will not be available initially in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. And Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.
Siri AI will be available as a beta later this year for users with a supported device set to English, with Apple expanding support to more languages over time.
India-specific considerations
For Indian iPhone users, the news is straightforward: iOS 27 releases in India on the same day as the rest of the world, with no local delay, and as a free download. The base operating system, meaning the design changes, performance gains, and parental controls, applies fully. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI availability in India will track Apple's English-first, expanding-language rollout, so check your region and language settings after updating. As with any new AI feature that processes personal data, review what is handled on-device versus in the cloud, and consider how that intersects with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 if you manage devices for a business.
