Summary. Anthropic's deprecations page gives 13 active Claude models a tentative retirement floor in 2027, from claude-opus-4-6 on 5 February to claude-haiku-5-5 on 7 October. A floor is the earliest possible date, not a schedule: Anthropic promises at least 60 days' notice, so a model can retire on its floor only if notice arrives 60 days before. Amazon Bedrock's model cards show the same floors, but Bedrock also requires at least six months in Legacy, so on 7 November 2026 none of the 13 could reach end of life there before 7 May 2027. Microsoft Foundry publishes firm dates that come earlier for four models, starting with Opus 4.6 on 2 February 2027. Google's model pages set much earlier floors for three Google-managed models: Sonnet 5 on 24 December 2026, Opus 5 on 24 January 2027 and Fable 5.1 on 1 March 2027. Plan around the earliest date on any platform you call. If you can migrate only once, move to Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 or Haiku 5.5, whose floors fall in late September and October 2027 on Anthropic, Bedrock and Google alike.
About this article. This calendar is for engineering and platform teams running Claude on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry or Google Cloud. On 7 November 2026 we checked every date, model ID and price against Anthropic's documentation, AWS model cards and lifecycle pages, Microsoft's Foundry retirement schedule and policy, and Google Cloud's Claude model and deprecation pages. Vendors change these pages often, so re-check before you commit; no vendor paid for inclusion. Researched with AI assistance and reviewed by our editorial team.
The 2027 calendar on Anthropic's own platforms
Anthropic's dates cover the platforms it operates: the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed, launched on 22 October 2026) and Microsoft Foundry. All 13 models were Active on 7 November 2026. The notice column is the floor minus Anthropic's 60-day minimum: if no notice has arrived by then, the floor has slipped.
| Floor (not sooner than) | Model ID | Notice needed by | Days from 7 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 Feb 2027 | claude-opus-4-6 | 7 Dec 2026 | 90 |
| 17 Feb 2027 | claude-sonnet-4-6 | 19 Dec 2026 | 102 |
| 16 Apr 2027 | claude-opus-4-7 | 15 Feb 2027 | 160 |
| 28 May 2027 | claude-opus-4-8 | 29 Mar 2027 | 202 |
| 9 Jun 2027 | claude-fable-5 | 10 Apr 2027 | 214 |
| 9 Jun 2027 | claude-mythos-5 | 10 Apr 2027 | 214 |
| 30 Jun 2027 | claude-sonnet-5 | 1 May 2027 | 235 |
| 24 Jul 2027 | claude-opus-5 | 25 May 2027 | 259 |
| 1 Sep 2027 | claude-fable-5-1 | 3 Jul 2027 | 298 |
| 1 Sep 2027 | claude-mythos-5-1 | 3 Jul 2027 | 298 |
| 22 Sep 2027 | claude-opus-5-5 | 24 Jul 2027 | 319 |
| 28 Sep 2027 | claude-sonnet-5-5 | 30 Jul 2027 | 325 |
| 7 Oct 2027 | claude-haiku-5-5 | 8 Aug 2027 | 334 |
Status labels need care: Anthropic's models overview already lists seven of the 13 (Opus 4.6, Sonnet 4.6, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.8, Fable 5, Sonnet 5 and Opus 5) as legacy models, meaning no further updates, while the deprecations table still says Active. Mythos 5 and 5.1 are limited-availability models that need verification on Bedrock, so most teams will plan around the other 11.
Four models sit just outside the calendar. claude-opus-4-5-20251101 has a floor of 24 November 2026 but no notice yet, so it cannot leave the Claude API before 6 January 2027, while Foundry lists 24 November. claude-haiku-4-5-20251001 passed its 15 October 2026 floor and stays Active, yet Foundry retires it on 15 November 2026. claude-mythos-preview has been Deprecated since 9 June 2026 with no date from Anthropic; Foundry lists 2 April 2027. claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929 retires on 30 November 2026 on the Claude API, Foundry and Google alike.
How Anthropic's deprecation commitments work
Anthropic uses four states: Active, Legacy (no further updates), Deprecated (working, with a replacement and retirement date) and Retired (requests fail). It warns that deprecated models are likely to be less reliable, so quality risk starts at deprecation, not retirement.
The 60-day notice. Anthropic notifies customers with active deployments at least 60 days before retiring a publicly released model, by email and in the documentation. Recent notices sit close to that minimum:
| Notice date | Model | Retirement | Days | Replacement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 Sep 2026 | claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929 | 30 Nov 2026 | 61 | claude-sonnet-5-5 |
| 5 Jun 2026 | claude-opus-4-1-20250805 | 5 Aug 2026 | 61 | claude-opus-4-8 |
| 14 Apr 2026 | claude-sonnet-4 and claude-opus-4 (20250514) | 15 Jun 2026 | 62 | claude-sonnet-5-5, claude-opus-4-8 |
| 19 Feb 2026 | claude-3-haiku-20240307 | 20 Apr 2026 | 60 | claude-haiku-4-5-20251001 |
| 19 Dec 2025 | claude-3-5-haiku-20241022 | 19 Feb 2026 | 62 | claude-haiku-4-5-20251001 |
| 28 Oct 2025 | claude-3-7-sonnet-20250219 | 19 Feb 2026 | 114 | claude-sonnet-5-5 |
The floor. On all 13 Bedrock model cards, launch and floor are exactly one year apart, for example Opus 4.6 (5 February 2026 to 5 February 2027) and Sonnet 5.5 (28 September 2026 to 28 September 2027). Since Claude 3.7 Sonnet, retired Sonnet and Opus models have lasted 12 to 14 months from the date in their model ID.
Weight preservation. In November 2025 Anthropic committed to keep the weights of every publicly released model for at least the company's lifetime and to interview each model in a post-deployment report. None of this keeps an API endpoint alive.
Parameter deprecations. API version 2026-10-21 removed temperature, top_p and top_k, which now return a 400 error; earlier versions return one for non-default values on Claude 4.7 and later. The SDK major releases of 21 October 2026 send the new version by default, so a dependency upgrade can break code whose model string never changed.
Amazon Bedrock: same floors, a six-month runway
AWS says only the dates on a model's card apply to Bedrock. Models launched before 7 September 2026 follow the older policy: at least 12 months on Bedrock, at least six months in Legacy, and, after at least three months in Legacy, a public extended access phase at higher prices set by the provider. Models launched since then have a card-stated Legacy period of six months or 45 days; the three 5.5 models have six months. The 13 cards show the following.
| Model | Bedrock base ID | EOL no sooner than | Legacy period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opus 4.6 | anthropic.claude-opus-4-6-v1 | 5 Feb 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Sonnet 4.6 | anthropic.claude-sonnet-4-6 | 17 Feb 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Opus 4.7 | anthropic.claude-opus-4-7 | 16 Apr 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Opus 4.8 | anthropic.claude-opus-4-8 | 28 May 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Fable 5 | anthropic.claude-fable-5 | 9 Jun 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Mythos 5 | anthropic.claude-mythos-5 | 9 Jun 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Sonnet 5 | anthropic.claude-sonnet-5 | 30 Jun 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Opus 5 | anthropic.claude-opus-5 | 24 Jul 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Fable 5.1 | anthropic.claude-fable-5-1 | 1 Sep 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Mythos 5.1 | anthropic.claude-mythos-5-1 | 1 Sep 2027 | At least 6 months |
| Opus 5.5 | anthropic.claude-opus-5-5 | 22 Sep 2027 | 6 months |
| Sonnet 5.5 | anthropic.claude-sonnet-5-5 | 28 Sep 2027 | 6 months |
| Haiku 5.5 | anthropic.claude-haiku-5-5 | 7 Oct 2027 | 6 months |
None of the 13 was in Legacy on 7 November 2026, so even a notice that day would put the earliest Bedrock end of life at 7 May 2027. That is our reading of AWS's minimum, not a promise: the same AWS page shows Claude 3 Haiku in Mumbai (ap-south-1) entering Legacy on 10 October 2026 with end of life on 13 November 2026, 34 days later. The long-tail precedent is Sonnet 4.5, which leaves the Claude API on 30 November 2026 but stays on Bedrock until 8 April 2027, at extended access prices from 8 January. Our Opus 4.1 and Sonnet 4.5 Bedrock guide covers that move.
Legacy status blocks new customers, can remove access after 15 days of inactivity and stops new Provisioned Throughput, so the practical deadline arrives with the Legacy notice.
Microsoft Foundry: firm dates, sometimes earlier
Microsoft's retirement schedule, last updated on 23 September 2026, gives firm dates; Version 1 runs on Anthropic infrastructure and Version 2 on Azure.
| Foundry model | Version | Lifecycle | Foundry retirement | Against Anthropic's floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| claude-opus-4-6 | 1 | GA | 2 Feb 2027 | 3 days earlier |
| claude-sonnet-4-6 | 1 | GA | 10 Feb 2027 | 7 days earlier |
| claude-opus-4-7 | 1 | GA | 6 Apr 2027 | 10 days earlier |
| claude-sonnet-5 | 1 and 2 | GA | 30 Jun 2027 | Same |
| claude-opus-5 | 1 and 2 | GA | 8 Jul 2027 | 16 days earlier |
| claude-opus-4-8 | 1 and 2 | GA | 1 Sep 2027 | 96 days later |
| claude-mythos-5-1 | 1 | Preview | 1 Sep 2027 | Same |
| claude-fable-5 | 1 | Preview | 5 Dec 2027 | 179 days later |
| claude-fable-5-1 | 1 | Preview | 5 Dec 2027 | 95 days later |
| claude-opus-5-5-fast | 2 | GA | 15 Jan 2027 | Fast variant only |
The schedule has no rows for claude-opus-5-5, claude-sonnet-5-5, claude-haiku-5-5 or claude-mythos-5. Microsoft's policy gives GA models from Anthropic a 12-month lifecycle instead of the standard 18, sends GA retirement notices at least 60 days ahead (30 for preview models) and returns 410 Gone after retirement. Anthropic says Foundry follows the Claude API schedule, yet Microsoft lists earlier dates for four models, so plan on the earlier one. Our Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 guide covers that conflict.
The fast variant of Opus 5.5 on Azure retires on 15 January 2027, the earliest date on any platform for a 5.5-generation deployment.
Google Cloud: earlier floors for three models
Anthropic managed follows Anthropic's dates. Google managed runs on Google's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, the successor to Vertex AI, and Google sets its lifecycle dates. Google's model pages, last updated on 6 November 2026 and using the Claude API model IDs, show these floors; Google's release dates are within a day of Bedrock's launch dates.
| Model | Retirement not sooner than | Against Anthropic's floor |
|---|---|---|
| Opus 4.6 | 5 Feb 2027 | Same |
| Sonnet 4.6 | None shown | Not comparable |
| Opus 4.7 | 16 Apr 2027 | Same |
| Opus 4.8 | 28 May 2027 | Same |
| Fable 5 | 8 Jun 2027 | 1 day earlier |
| Sonnet 5 | 24 Dec 2026 | 188 days earlier |
| Opus 5 | 24 Jan 2027 | 181 days earlier |
| Fable 5.1 | 1 Mar 2027 | 184 days earlier |
| Opus 5.5 | 22 Sep 2027 | Same |
| Sonnet 5.5 | 28 Sep 2027 | Same |
| Haiku 5.5 | 7 Oct 2027 | Same |
We found no public Google page for Mythos 5 or 5.1. On Google, Sonnet 5 (released 30 June 2026), Opus 5 (24 July) and Fable 5.1 (1 September) have floors about six months after release, not a year, so a Google-managed Sonnet 5 deployment could be retired as early as 24 December 2026 if Google sends notice in time.
Google's partner deprecations page lists Sonnet 4.5 as the only Claude model with a shutdown still ahead: deprecated on 29 September 2026 and shut down on 30 November 2026, 62 days later and the same day as the Claude API. Earlier Claude windows on Google ranged from 32 days (Claude 3 Opus) to about six months (four Claude 3.x models), and we found no stated minimum notice period for partner models. Watch that page. Google-managed regional endpoints also serve only Sonnet 4.6 and earlier, so leaving a 4.6 model there means changing endpoint type too.
The earliest date per model across platforms
Combining the four platforms gives the date to plan around. Bedrock's actual end of life cannot come before 7 May 2027 for any of these.
| Model | Earliest published date | Where | Other platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sonnet 5 | 24 Dec 2026 (floor) | Google managed | 30 Jun 2027 elsewhere |
| Opus 5 | 24 Jan 2027 (floor) | Google managed | 8 Jul 2027 Foundry; 24 Jul 2027 Anthropic, Bedrock |
| Opus 4.6 | 2 Feb 2027 (firm) | Foundry | 5 Feb 2027 elsewhere |
| Sonnet 4.6 | 10 Feb 2027 (firm) | Foundry | 17 Feb 2027 Anthropic, Bedrock; none on Google |
| Fable 5.1 | 1 Mar 2027 (floor) | Google managed | 1 Sep 2027 Anthropic, Bedrock; 5 Dec 2027 Foundry |
| Opus 4.7 | 6 Apr 2027 (firm) | Foundry | 16 Apr 2027 elsewhere |
| Opus 4.8 | 28 May 2027 (floor) | Anthropic, Bedrock, Google | 1 Sep 2027 Foundry |
| Fable 5 | 8 Jun 2027 (floor) | Google managed | 9 Jun 2027 Anthropic, Bedrock; 5 Dec 2027 Foundry |
| Mythos 5 | 9 Jun 2027 (floor) | Anthropic, Bedrock | Not on Foundry's schedule |
| Mythos 5.1 | 1 Sep 2027 | Anthropic, Bedrock, Foundry | None |
| Opus 5.5 | 22 Sep 2027 (floor) | Anthropic, Bedrock, Google | Foundry fast variant 15 Jan 2027 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | 28 Sep 2027 (floor) | Anthropic, Bedrock, Google | Not on Foundry's schedule |
| Haiku 5.5 | 7 Oct 2027 (floor) | Anthropic, Bedrock, Google | Not on Foundry's schedule |
The migration playbook
A team on several Claude models can face two or three forced moves in 2027.
| Step | Action | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Inventory | Export the Claude Console usage CSV by API key and model; list Bedrock, Foundry and Google deployments by Region | Platform team |
| 2. Set the real date | Take the earliest date across every platform you call, minus 2 to 4 weeks for cut-over | Engineering lead |
| 3. Watch notices | Track notice-needed-by dates, Anthropic emails, Bedrock Legacy notices and Google's deprecations page | Engineering lead |
| 4. Choose long-runway targets | Prefer Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 and Haiku 5.5; stopgaps such as Opus 4.8 or Sonnet 5 force a second move | Architect |
| 5. Gate with evals | Compare quality, refusals, latency and cost per successful task on a golden set from production traces | QA and ML |
| 6. Re-baseline cost | Recount tokens on the new tokenizer and with default thinking | FinOps |
| 7. Route and fall back | Use a gateway with a second platform or model as fallback during cut-over | Platform team |
Step 2 matters most. Opus 4.6 must be off Foundry by 2 February 2027, yet cannot leave Bedrock before May. Our comparison of AI model retirement policies explains why vendors differ.
Step 4 decides whether you migrate once or twice. The Sonnet 5.5 migration guide lists five settings that return a 400 error: thinking budgets, sampling parameters, assistant prefill, forced tool choice and turning thinking off. Thinking also runs by default. Prefill already fails on Sonnet 4.6, so that change bites only code written for Sonnet 4.5 or earlier.
Step 6 is where the per-token saving can vanish. Sonnet 5.5 costs $2 input and $10 output per million tokens against $3 and $15 for Sonnet 4.6; Opus 5.5 costs $4 and $20 against $5 and $25 for Opus 4.6. Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 and $0.50 for prompts up to 100,000 tokens. But Claude 4.7 and later models produce about 30 percent more tokens for the same text. For Sonnet, two thirds of the price times 1.3 gives about 0.87, roughly 13 percent cheaper for the same text. For Opus, Anthropic gives a range of 1 to 1.35 times the tokens, so the result runs from 0.8 (20 percent cheaper) to 0.8 times 1.35, about 1.08 (8 percent dearer). Default thinking adds output tokens, so test your own traffic with our LLM token counter.
Step 7 buys time. Bedrock often keeps Claude models months after Anthropic does, so a gateway that can route to Bedrock gives you a fallback; our AI gateway comparison covers the options. Check residency first.
Residency notes for India, the EU and the US
India. From Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2), Bedrock offers most of these models only through global cross-Region inference. Sonnet 5 and Opus 5 also have an India geo profile that keeps routing within Mumbai and Hyderabad. The 5.5 models have none, so moving that traffic to Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5 changes where prompts are processed; record it in your DPDP documentation.
EU. Bedrock has EU geo profiles for the Opus, Sonnet and Haiku models in this calendar, but Fable 5 and 5.1 have only a US profile. Geo and regional routing on Bedrock costs 10 percent more than global, and Google's multi-region and regional endpoints carry the same premium.
US. On Foundry, deployments hosted on Azure can use US Data Zone Standard, which keeps inference in the United States at a 1.1x price multiplier. Sonnet 5.5 supports only Global Standard there, so a Sonnet 5 deployment pinned to the US Data Zone loses that option when it moves.
