Summary. CES 2027 runs from 6 to 9 January 2027 in Las Vegas, with media days and CES Unveiled on 4 and 5 January. As of 1 November 2026 the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has confirmed three keynotes: Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana (5 January, 6:30 p.m. PST), Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa (6 January, 8:30 a.m. PST) and Lenovo's Tech World at Sphere with Yuanqing Yang (6 January, 5 p.m. PT). Intel said on 29 October that Nova Lake, its first Intel 18A-P client product, is running ahead of schedule and that it will share more at CES. The backdrop is harsh: IDC expects PC shipments to fall 11.3% in 2026 and 4.1% in 2027, Intel is planning for a 2027 market down roughly 10%, and memory costs are lifting prices. Microsoft still defines a Copilot+ PC by a 40+ TOPS NPU, 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Consumer Windows 10 ESU ends on 12 October 2027; commercial ESU costs $61 per device in Year One and doubles each year. Our verdict: treat CES 2027 as a roadmap and pricing check, not a buying trigger.
About this article. This briefing is for IT leaders and procurement teams deciding what to watch, and what to ask, at CES 2027. Event details and vendor statements were checked on 1 November 2026 against CTA, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and IDC pages, plus named trade press where no primary source exists. Unannounced products are labelled reported or expected, never fact, and leaked specifications are left out. This is general information, not procurement advice; no vendor paid for inclusion. Researched with AI assistance and reviewed by our editorial team.
What CTA has confirmed for CES 2027
CTA lists CES 2027 for 6 to 9 January in Las Vegas, and registration opened on 8 September 2026. Its dates-and-hours page and keynote announcements set out the week.
| Day (2027) | What happens | Where | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon 4 Jan | Media Day 1 and CES Unveiled Las Vegas (media only) | Mandalay Bay | Confirmed by CTA |
| Tue 5 Jan | Media Day 2; conference sessions 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Waymo keynote 6:30 p.m. PST | Palazzo Ballroom, The Venetian | Confirmed by CTA |
| Wed 6 Jan | State of the Industry, then Stellantis keynote 8:30 a.m. PST; exhibits 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Lenovo Tech World 5 p.m. PT | Palazzo Ballroom; show venues; Sphere | Confirmed by CTA |
| Thu 7 and Fri 8 Jan | Exhibits 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. | Show venues | Confirmed by CTA |
| Sat 9 Jan | Exhibits 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Show venues | Confirmed by CTA |
Lenovo's is the only confirmed PC-maker keynote. CTA says Lenovo will show how personal, enterprise and public AI work together across devices, infrastructure and services under its Hybrid AI strategy, with entry limited to credentialed CES attendees. At a Seoul press conference on 14 October 2026, CTA named its 2027 themes as foundation, transformation and exploration, with AI semiconductors, vertical AI and agentic AI as the drivers, according to MoneyToday's machine-translated report. The same report says CTA will add an advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation area in South Hall 3 of the Las Vegas Convention Center, plus an agentic AI zone.
Not confirmed: CTA's keynote page still promises more announcements, and no AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Microsoft or Samsung keynote had been named when we checked on 1 November.
Why this CES matters more than usual for 2027 fleet plans
Memory prices are setting the budget
The most important number at CES 2027 may be the price of a 32 GB business laptop, not a TOPS figure. IDC's September 2026 forecast cut 2027 from flat to a 4.1% decline, and IDC's Bryan Ma named high memory prices as the headwind. In June, IDC said it expected no meaningful relief from the memory shortage before the end of 2027 and forecast 17% growth in average selling prices for 2026. In February, it warned that PC makers may cut base RAM and SSD configurations, which weakens the case for local AI.
Intel's 29 October remarks point the same way. Intel expects the 2026 PC unit market to fall about 12% and is planning for a 2027 decline of roughly 10%, even though its AI PC revenue grew 35% year on year. Scrutinise launch prices and base configurations more than benchmark slides. Our Nova Lake vs Medusa refresh guide sets out what Intel and AMD have confirmed about their 2027 chips and when to buy.
The Windows 10 clock keeps running
Microsoft's consumer ESU page says enrolled Windows 10 PCs get critical and important security updates until the programme ends on 12 October 2027. Enrolment is free with settings sync, costs 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or is a one-time $30, and one licence covers up to 10 devices. Microsoft says consumer ESU cannot be used in commercial scenarios and is not offered to domain-joined, Entra-joined or MDM-enrolled devices, although Microsoft Entra registered devices can use it.
Managed PCs need commercial ESU, which costs $61 per device for Year One and doubles each year for up to three years; late joiners pay for missed years. So 12 October 2027 bites hardest on personal Windows 10 PCs used under BYOD and on small offices running unmanaged machines.
Expected areas at CES 2027: confirmed vs reported
Each row is sourced in this section and the next; the main sources are Intel, AMD, TechSpot, Tom's Hardware, Counterpoint and MoneyToday.
| Area | Confirmed before the show | Reported or expected | Why it matters to IT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intel client CPUs | Nova Lake on Intel 18A-P; more detail at CES | Business models, NPU figures and dates not yet announced | Timing of 2027 refresh waves |
| AMD client CPUs | Ryzen AI 300 and 400 qualify for Copilot+; Medusa on AMD's 2027 roadmap | No CES 2027 keynote announced; Medusa date unknown | Whether to wait for Zen 6 laptops |
| Arm Windows PCs | Snapdragon X2 on sale; Nvidia RTX Spark N1X laptops due from October 2026 | More designs | App compatibility on Arm |
| Copilot+ and Windows AI | 40+ TOPS NPU, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB storage | Experimental GPU path for some Windows AI developer APIs on non-Copilot+ PCs | Which AI features users get |
| Wi-Fi 7 and 8 | Wi-Fi 8 silicon from Broadcom, MediaTek and Qualcomm; IEEE ratification expected mid to late 2028 | More pre-standard Wi-Fi 8 routers and modules | Access point timing, firmware risk |
| Smart glasses | Shipments up 263% in H1 2026 (Counterpoint) | First Android XR glasses from Samsung and Google, display-less at first | Camera and data policy |
| Robotics | CTA robotics area in South Hall 3 (per MoneyToday) | Humanoid and robot-hand demos, a CTA focus | Warehouse and facilities pilots |
| Edge AI | Intel cites edge and physical AI design wins; Lenovo Hybrid AI keynote | New edge computers and branch AI servers | Who patches and where data goes |
AMD's Medusa timing comes from a November 2025 Financial Analyst Day slide that places Medusa over 2027 and says the roadmap is subject to change; PC Gamer read it as Medusa APUs in 2027. At its September 2026 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm said Linux support for X2 laptops starts with Debian by the end of 2026, with Ubuntu certification targeted for the first half of 2027, as reported by TNW. None of these vendors has published retail dates for its 2027 parts.
AI PCs and NPUs: what to check on the show floor
Microsoft's Windows 11 specifications page, checked on 1 November 2026, says a Copilot+ PC needs an NPU capable of 40+ TOPS, 16 GB of DDR5 or LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of SSD or UFS storage. The processor list names AMD Ryzen AI 300 and 400 series, Intel Core Ultra 200V and 300V series and Snapdragon X series. The page adds that a PC with a 40+ TOPS NPU but under 16 GB of RAM is not a Copilot+ PC, and that improved Windows search and Click to Do need a machine meeting every requirement.
That is the trap in a memory shortage. A 40+ TOPS laptop shipped with 8 GB to hit a price point is not a Copilot+ PC, whatever the marketing says. Ask for the exact model.
The GPU picture is shifting. Microsoft's developer guidance says Windows ML falls back to the GPU or CPU when the preferred NPU path fails or is unavailable. Windows Latest reported in June 2026 that Microsoft's documentation now lists an experimental option to run the Windows language model APIs on non-Copilot+ PCs with an Nvidia RTX 30-series or newer GPU and at least 6 GB of video memory, while Recall and Click to Do stay tied to NPU machines. The Copilot+ label still depends on the NPU, so check feature by feature.
Nvidia's RTX Spark is the new option. Tom's Hardware reported in September that the N1X pairs a 20-core Grace CPU with a 6,144 CUDA-core Blackwell GPU and 24 to 128 GB of unified memory, or comes as a laptop-only 18-core, 5,120-core version with 24 to 32 GB, with laptops due from October 2026. These Windows on Arm machines are pitched mainly at agentic AI. Microsoft's Copilot+ processor list did not name Nvidia when we checked, so get Copilot+ status in writing. We covered the demand side in our analysis of Nvidia's AI PC push.
Last year is a fair guide. At CES 2026, per Microsoft's recap, Intel launched Core Ultra Series 3 with more than 200 designs and systems from 27 January, AMD announced Ryzen AI 400, and Qualcomm launched Snapdragon X2 Plus with an 80 TOPS NPU. If Intel's Nova Lake update brings details but no ship dates, keep current models in your catalogue longer.
Three checks for any AI PC demo:
- Which app is using the NPU? Ask to see Task Manager, which shows NPU usage, and the app and model names.
- What happens on battery and on 16 GB? Most demos run plugged in, on top configurations.
- Does it run your stack? On Arm, test VPN, endpoint detection, printer drivers and line-of-business apps first.
Edge AI, Wi-Fi, smart glasses and robotics
Edge AI
Edge AI at CES means small computers running vision and language models on site, and hybrid designs where a PC, a local server and the cloud split the work. Intel told investors its edge business held up thanks to edge and physical AI design wins, and Lenovo's keynote is built around Hybrid AI. Ask who patches the box, where model updates come from and what data leaves the site.
Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 8
Wi-Fi 7 is already routine; Samsung's Galaxy Book6 laptops listed it at CES 2026. Broadcom and MediaTek previewed Wi-Fi 8 silicon at that show, and Qualcomm announced its FastConnect 8800 and Dragonwing Wi-Fi 8 platforms in March 2026. TechSpot reported that IEEE 802.11bn ratification is not expected until mid to late 2028, and the Wi-Fi Alliance's chief executive said in January that it was in the early stages of selecting Wi-Fi 8 features. Our view: buy Wi-Fi 7 where you need 2027 capacity, and treat Wi-Fi 8 as a 2028-plus decision unless a vendor commits in writing to a certified upgrade path. Our network solutions team plans Wi-Fi by site.
Smart glasses
Counterpoint Research, as reported by 9to5Google, says AI glasses shipments rose 263% year on year in the first half of 2026, with Meta at 94% share and display-less models at 96% of shipments. Qualcomm named Meta, Snap's Specs, Samsung and Warby Parker as glasses partners in September, and INSPECS showed enterprise safety glasses with a 12 MP camera. For IT, glasses are a camera and microphone on someone's face. Decide where recording is banned and how footage is stored before any pilot.
Robotics
CTA's Melissa Harrison told reporters in Seoul that what matters is whether robots can actually do specific jobs better, per MoneyToday. Judge humanoid demos on which task the robot completes unattended, its cost per hour of useful work, and its safety certification for working near people.
Questions to ask vendors at CES
| Topic | Question to ask | A good answer includes |
|---|---|---|
| Ship dates | When do business models ship in my region? | A quarter, named models, India, EU or US availability |
| Memory | What RAM and SSD come in the base business configuration? Is RAM soldered? | 16 GB minimum, a 32 GB option |
| Pricing | Will you hold quoted prices for 90 days given memory costs? | Written price protection |
| Copilot+ status | Is this exact model a Copilot+ PC under Microsoft's requirements? | Yes or no in writing, with TOPS and RAM |
| Local AI | Which shipping apps use the NPU today? | Named apps running on the demo unit |
| Arm compatibility | Have you validated our VPN, EDR, printing and core apps? | A tested list or a loan unit |
| Manageability | Does it support Autopilot, Intune and remote firmware updates? | Documented support, BIOS update cadence |
| Lifecycle | How long will the platform image stay stable, and how many years of driver updates? | A stable-image window and support years in writing |
| Wi-Fi 8 | How will pre-standard Wi-Fi 8 reach final certification? | A firmware roadmap, not a promise |
| Glasses and edge devices | Where do audio, video and telemetry go, and who patches the device? | Admin controls, regional storage, a support term |
What changes our 2027 fleet plan: a checklist
- Count Windows 10 devices by ownership. Managed PCs go on commercial ESU or get replaced. Personal PCs need Windows 11 or consumer ESU, which ends 12 October 2027 and is open only to devices that are Entra registered, not Entra joined or MDM-enrolled.
- Set a BYOD access rule. Pick a date before 12 October 2027 after which Windows 10 devices without ESU lose access through conditional access.
- Hold the 16 GB floor. Specify 32 GB for developers, analysts and anyone running local models.
- Re-price after CES. If 16 GB and 32 GB launch prices exceed current quotes, replace Windows 10 machines first and extend healthy Windows 11 ones.
- Decide on Nova Lake. If Intel gives business laptop dates, align your later 2027 waves. If not, do not delay replacing unsupported PCs.
- Run an Arm pilot. Five to ten users on Snapdragon X2 or RTX Spark for 60 days with your full security stack.
- Write a Copilot+ feature policy. Decide which on-device features are allowed and which roles get Copilot+ hardware.
- Plan Wi-Fi by site. Wi-Fi 7 for 2027 capacity; Wi-Fi 8 only with a written certification path.
- Review wearables and robots first. No pilot without a data map and a DPDP or GDPR assessment.
- Book a post-CES review in late January 2027, then again before the ESU date.
Worked cost example: the price of waiting on Windows 10
A firm has 200 managed Windows 10 PCs, skipped commercial ESU in Year One and now wants coverage. Microsoft says ESU is cumulative and doubles each year from $61.
- Year One $61, Year Two $122 (2 × $61), Year Three $244 (2 × $122) per device.
- Joining in Year Two means paying $61 + $122 = $183 per device, or $36,600 for 200 PCs.
- Staying through Year Three costs $183 + $244 = $427 per device, or $85,400 for 200 PCs.
That buys security patches only: ESU brings no new features, and Microsoft's ESU support covers only activation, installation and regressions of the updates. Compare $427 per device with your post-CES refresh quote. A staff member's personal PC that is only Entra registered can instead use consumer ESU, a one-time $30 covering up to 10 devices until 12 October 2027.
Key dates for 2027 planning
Dates come from CTA and Microsoft.
| Date | Event | Action |
|---|---|---|
| 4 and 5 Jan 2027 | CES media days and Unveiled | Watch for business models and prices |
| 6 to 9 Jan 2027 | CES 2027 exhibits and keynotes | Use the vendor question table |
| Late Jan 2027 | Post-show review | Update the fleet plan and quotes |
| 12 Oct 2027 | Consumer Windows 10 ESU ends | BYOD Windows 10 devices stop getting updates |
| October 2028 | Commercial ESU reaches its three-year maximum | Last patches for managed Windows 10 PCs |
India, EU and US notes
India. The DPDP Rules, notified on 14 November 2025, give organisations an 18-month phased compliance period, which runs to May 2027. Our DPDP engineering playbook covers the controls. Smart glasses, camera-equipped edge devices and on-device AI that indexes screens all handle personal data. Local inference keeps data on the laptop but does not remove consent and retention duties. Ask for India launch dates, warranty terms and rupee pricing at the booth; a CES announcement does not guarantee an India launch.
EU. Microsoft says consumer ESU enrolment options and timing may vary in the European Economic Area, so check the local page. GDPR applies to wearable recording.
US. Treat CES launch prices as starting list prices. With IDC forecasting a 17% rise in average PC selling prices for 2026, quotes can move between January and delivery.
What we will update after the show
After CES closes on 9 January we will add Intel's Nova Lake details, AMD, Qualcomm, Nvidia and Microsoft news, business launch prices and Lenovo's enterprise commitments. Reported items will be confirmed or removed.
