Summary. Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant Apple unveiled on June 8, 2026, will not arrive the same way in every market. In the United States and India it ships in English with iOS 27 this fall, on an iPhone 15 Pro, an iPhone 16, or later. In the European Union, Apple has blocked Siri AI on iPhone and iPad over a dispute with the Digital Markets Act, and says it has no timeline; the European Commission counters that the choice is Apple's alone. In China, Siri AI is not available at the iOS 27 launch while Apple works through regulatory approval, even though the earlier Apple Intelligence layer reached Chinese iPhones in March 2026 through local partners Alibaba and Baidu. The base iOS 27 update, with its speed gains and redesign, still ships in all four regions; only the AI layer is gated. For a fleet buyer, that means the cheapest Siri AI-capable iPhone in India, the iPhone 16e at ₹59,900, is useful in Mumbai but not for the same features in Munich, and buying a newer iPhone changes nothing about the regional split.

If you run iPhones across borders, the practical question is not what Siri AI does but where it legally turns on. This guide maps the four markets in the title for founders and CTOs. For the launch date itself, see our iOS 27 release timeline; for whether the update has shipped at all, see is iOS 27 out yet.

Siri AI regional availability at a glance

Base iOS 27 is global. Siri AI is not. Here is the split across the four markets and the two EU device classes, which Apple treats differently.

Region Siri AI at iOS 27 launch Detail
United States Yes, in English Needs iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or later
India Yes, English (India) only No Hindi; Apple Intelligence in English since March 2025
European Union (iPhone, iPad, Watch) No Blocked over the DMA, no timeline given
European Union (Mac, Vision Pro) Yes Apple allows Siri AI here in a supported language
China Not at launch Pending regulatory approval; Alibaba and Baidu are local partners

The one line to carry into any planning meeting: everyone gets iOS 27, but Siri AI on iPhone is a US-and-India feature at launch, a Mac-only feature in the EU, and a wait in China.

Region Language at launch Key constraint
United States English iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or later
India English (India) No Hindi yet
European Union None on iPhone and iPad DMA dispute, no timeline
China None at launch Pending CAC approval

United States: the baseline launch market

The United States is the reference case. Siri AI ships there in English with iOS 27 this fall as a free update, on any iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 and later. Everything Apple demonstrated at WWDC26 is aimed at this configuration: on-screen awareness, personal-context search across messages and photos, a dedicated Siri app, and web answers drawn from broad world knowledge. If a feature exists for Siri AI, it exists here first, which makes the US build the one to test against before you reason about any other market.

India-specific considerations

India is on the launch side of the line, with one caveat that matters for product decisions: language. Apple Intelligence has run in India since the iOS 18.4 update in March 2025, and Siri AI continues that pattern, working in English (India). Apple's India support pages confirm the AI suite is not yet offered in Hindi or other regional Indian languages, though the new Siri can understand English mixed with languages such as Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. So an Indian user gets the full Siri AI experience, just in English rather than a local language.

The hardware floor is the same as elsewhere: an iPhone 15 Pro, an iPhone 16, or later. The cheapest way in is the iPhone 16e, which starts at Rs 59,900 for the 128GB model, while an older iPhone 11 still gets iOS 27 without the AI. On governance, Siri AI sends some requests to Apple's private cloud, so any enterprise rollout in India should map that data path against the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, deciding what leaves the device and designing the deployment to meet DPDP requirements rather than assuming the platform settles it.

European Union: blocked by the DMA standoff

The EU is the sharp exception, and it is a policy dispute, not a technical one. Apple will not ship Siri AI on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the European Union, and published a newsroom note titled "Due to DMA, Siri AI delayed in EU for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27." Apple frames the cause as the Digital Markets Act. Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, said: "We're deeply disappointed that our EU users won't have Siri AI on iPhone or iPad when we share our new software releases later this year. Our hope is to eventually bring Siri AI to the EU, and we will continue to engage with EU regulators on a path forward. However, their refusal to engage constructively on solutions that preserve privacy and security means we do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI's availability on iOS and iPadOS in the EU."

The European Commission rejects that framing. In its response, reported across EU outlets, the Commission said the decision "is Apple's and Apple's only. Because absolutely nothing in the DMA prohibits Apple from introducing new products in the EU." The disagreement is about whether the DMA's interoperability requirements can be met without, in Apple's view, weakening privacy, a question regulators and Apple describe in opposite terms. For a planner, the framing matters less than the outcome: as of mid-2026 there is no confirmed date for Siri AI on EU iPhones or iPads. One partial route exists. Apple allows Siri AI on Mac and Apple Vision Pro in the EU when set to a supported language, so an EU-based team is not entirely cut off, but the iPhone and iPad experience their users expect is absent.

China: waiting on regulators, with local partners inside

China is a third pattern: not a refusal like the EU, but a pending approval. Apple's official line is that Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China at the iOS 27 launch while it works through regulatory requirements. The regulator is the Cyberspace Administration of China, whose rules on foreign AI services require local involvement.

That local involvement already exists for the previous layer. AppleInsider reported that Apple Intelligence reached Chinese iPhones in March 2026, built to comply with Chinese rules through Alibaba, which supplies compliance and content-moderation systems, and Baidu, which provides localized search and visual-intelligence features. TMTPost reported that Baidu continued working with Apple on iPhone AI features in China after Alibaba was brought on. The takeaway for a fleet is that Apple has a working path in China for its base AI features, but the new Siri AI in iOS 27 is not part of the launch there, and Apple has not given a date. Treat Chinese-market iPhones as iOS 27 devices without Siri AI for now.

What this means for multi-region iPhone fleets

For a company running iPhones across these markets, the split has direct operational effects. First, do not promise Siri AI features in employee communications or product copy aimed at EU or China users; the feature is absent on iPhone in both, for different reasons and on different timelines. Second, in India, plan around English: any workflow that assumes Hindi-language AI will not work yet, so build for English (India) and monitor Apple's language expansion. Third, standardise the hardware policy on the AI floor, an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or later, because an iPhone 11 through iPhone 15 will run iOS 27 but never show Siri AI regardless of region.

Region Base iOS 27 Siri AI
United States and India Yes Yes, in English
EU (iPhone and iPad) Yes No
EU (Mac and Vision Pro) Yes Yes
China Yes Not at launch

The data path is the cross-cutting concern. Siri AI routes some requests to Apple's private cloud, and each region layers its own rules on top: DPDP in India, the DMA and GDPR in the EU, and the Cyberspace Administration's requirements in China. A single global configuration will not satisfy all three. The workable approach is a per-region policy, set through mobile device management, that reflects where Siri AI is on, off, or pending, and an app data design that assumes the strictest applicable rule.

Why the regional split looks the way it does

Three markets, three different causes, and telling them apart helps you predict what changes next. India and the United States are the straightforward case: Apple has a clear regulatory path and existing language support, so Siri AI ships there on day one, with India's only limit being that the AI runs in English rather than Hindi. Nothing structural blocks it, so the likely change over time is more languages, not less access.

The European Union is a standoff, not a technical gap. Apple says the Digital Markets Act's interoperability demands cannot be met without weakening privacy, and has chosen to withhold Siri AI on iPhone and iPad rather than comply on those terms; the European Commission says nothing in the DMA requires that outcome. Because the block is a negotiating position on both sides, its resolution depends on talks rather than engineering, which is why Apple gives no date. China is different again: not a refusal but a queue. Apple already ships its base Apple Intelligence there through Alibaba and Baidu to satisfy the Cyberspace Administration, so the new Siri AI is waiting on the same kind of approval rather than facing a principled block. Of the three restricted situations, China is the one most likely to open through an approval, the EU the one most tied to a policy fight, and India the one that simply expands in languages. For planning, that ordering is more useful than a single availability date.

Frequently asked

Quick answers.

01 Is Siri AI available everywhere iOS 27 ships?
No. Base iOS 27 ships worldwide, but Siri AI is gated by region. It launches in English in the United States and India, is blocked on iPhone and iPad in the European Union over a Digital Markets Act dispute, and is not available in China at launch while Apple works through regulatory approval.
02 Does India get Siri AI in 2026?
Yes, in English. Apple Intelligence has run in India in English since the iOS 18.4 update in March 2025, and Siri AI continues that on supported devices. Hindi and other regional Indian languages are not yet supported, though Siri can understand English mixed with several Indian languages during conversations.
03 Why is Siri AI not available in the EU?
Apple says the Digital Markets Act blocks a compliant path, and that it has no timeline for Siri AI on EU iPhones or iPads. The European Commission disputes this, stating the decision is Apple's alone and that nothing in the DMA stops Apple from launching new products in the EU.
04 Can EU users get Siri AI at all?
Partly. Apple allows Siri AI on Mac and Apple Vision Pro in the European Union when the device is set to a supported language. It is the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch versions that Apple has held back in the EU, so an EU user with a Mac can reach Siri AI while their iPhone cannot.
05 When will Siri AI come to China?
Apple has not given a date. Siri AI is not part of the iOS 27 launch in China while Apple works through the Cyberspace Administration of China's requirements. Apple's earlier Apple Intelligence layer did reach China in March 2026 through local partners Alibaba and Baidu, but the new Siri is separate.
06 Which iPhones can run Siri AI?
Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later, the same devices that support Apple Intelligence. Older models from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus run iOS 27 and its other features, but cannot run Siri AI in any region.
07 Does base iOS 27 work in the EU and China?
Yes. The regional limits apply only to Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features. The rest of iOS 27, including the redesign, the speed improvements, the parental controls, and the security fixes, ships as a free update in the EU and China on the same schedule as everywhere else.
08 How should a company handle Siri AI across regions?
Treat it as a per-region policy. Do not promise the feature to EU or China users, plan for English-only AI in India, and standardise devices on the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 and later. Manage it through your mobile device management tool and design app data flows for the strictest local rule.
